Knotted Pleasures - RULE Rope Bondage Workshop

Sunday last i had the great pleasure of being able to attend the first ever gay rope bondage workshop hosted by RULE & OUTHOUSE Dublin with expert bondage tutor SIR DART flown in especially for us Irishmen to be taught.

Personally I am a novice to Rope bondage but my ever curious mind is open to trying new experiences and I recall a few years ago meeting a guy who loved rope bondage and we experimented with it to much pleasure together so I guess the seed was set from that moment, and having the opportunity to attend a Rope Bondage workshop felt very surreal to me.
The Workshop kicked off at 12pm and I drove up from Waterford especially for it with the plan on attending RULE fetish night later that night and driving back home to Waterford after. I enter the doors to OUTHOUSE on Capel Street, signed the visitors book and met Sean (RULE Committee) who was setting up in the basement for the workshop. A few other guys had arrived including the tutor for the day SIR DART.
When I saw  SIR DART, my jaw dropped to the floor, not only was he a sexy hot adonis but clad in leather too, I thought this is too much at that hour of the day but WOW, who I might add always says "Vanilla tastes better with a little topping" and I totally agree, I so wanted a huge dollop mmmmmm.

We shook hands and introduced each other, even though I had tweeted him earlier on Saturday just to welcome him to Ireland and telling him how I looked forward to his workshop. Thought it may break the ice beforehand but on the day of the workshop he welcomed my handshake honourably like a true brother.
I paid my 20euro fee for the days workshop, signed the consent/disclaimer form and we all were given binders containing Notes on Rope Bondage, CD containing PDF of the documentation (compiled by Karl (RULE Committee), 12.7m of Cotton Rope to take home with us. 24 attendees in total on the day so a great start to testing the water by hosting workshops for the Irish gay fetish community by RULE.
The workshop involved basic introductory to rope bondage such as Safety, basic restraint tie called the X, and a rope cufflink tie which is very adaptable, predicament bondage, and some demos by brave members of the audience. It was taught in a very informative and educational method with loads of laughs and interesting visual moments too. We all got the chance to buddy up and practice certain rope ties on each other under the watchful eye of SIR DART.
The day just flew, with a short 10min break in the middle we were ready and equipped to begin our own exploration into Rope Bondage play. This workshop has spawned something new and exciting in me now, and I thank the great committee of RULE for organising such a workshop on Irsh soil and having over such a master in the International Rope Bondage community.
I'm really looking forward to the next workshop and will start practicing the art straight away on any willing people LOL.

Just a reminder about RULE next Sunday night... It's very important that we keep the numbers up or we will lose the venue. We need to average about 125, so far we have had 132 on the first night and 103 on the second night. It's up to us all, if we want an event like RULE, to support the night and make sure it keeps going so we all have a regular event to meet up with other guys who share our fetish interests. Hope to see as many of you as possible there on Sunday. The next RULE event, after this Sunday, is Sunday 29th January... that's right, two events this month.

ROPE BONDAGE WORKSHOP with 'Sir Dart'.
Internationally recognised master of bondage, Sir Dart, will be in Dublin to do a workshop exclusively for RULE_Ireland Members and our friends.


The workshop is designed for both beginners and experienced guys with an interest in rope bondage. It is a practical workshop with 'hands on' experience as part of the session.


The workshop will begin at 11am and end at 2.30pm. It takes place in the basement of OutHouse on Capel Street, Dublin 1. We will have exclusive use of the building for the duration of the workshop.


There is a fee for participating in the workshop... we have to pay for the use of the venue and your fee includes a practice rope, as well as light refreshments. The fee is €20 each.


Places are limited to 20 participants. So book early as places are running out. To book a place you need to reply here to the club Admin, irl_skin.

It's that time of year again. Clear out the unwanted gear you have and let someone have a chance of buying it from you.


The venue will be OutHouse between 2pm and 5pm. With access for sellers from 1pm to set up or drop off items they want sold for them. We charge €2 per item you ask us to sell on your behalf and €10 for anyone wanting to setup their own stall. For more details contact Club Admin (irl_skin).




The Afters... After the Fetish Flea Market we ill have a meet up in PantiBar that evening from about 10pm on. Hope as many of you as possible can make it.

On Sunday 30th October 2011,  a new venue The Turks Head in the Basement opened its doors to 126 Gay fetishmen in the heart of Dublin City and by all accounts a very enjoyable relaxed night was had by all present.

The following are some individual Feedback Comments and reviews on the night.

Fair play to ye all
It was a great night
Only down side was having to use same toilets as the night club otherwise it was a good venue
Btw I'd rather have to share the loos than have no where to meet

Thanks for finding and organising the venue last night, great location. Personally - found the hard music too loud to talk through, maybe next time if you had music in adjoining room - that would be needed to accomodate any much greater numbers and would avoid "cross contamination" from other parties - though going out in leather etc isnt something guys are are hiding -if anything most guys were underdressed in the halloween context, nice mix of guys.
Bar ran out of change, cloakroom was wet and chaotic - guy i met had lost his ticket, i got fed up waiting for him to resolve that and left without him. As you know, at many venues guys will write a number on arm of participant...that or take name of guys leaving-in gear as fallback in case of lost ticket...maybe like in Boilerhouse - sign in /sign out your bag.
Otherwise well done and thanks again and looking forward to next time.

Cheers for putting in the work for last night, it was a good party, i enjoyed it. Really goood fun. Great meeting up and catching up with everyone.
In terms of feedback, heres mine:
- I think the venue is good, nice basement cavernous feel to the place, the bar worked well
- Obviously would be nice if we could have the downstairs to ourselves, some guys may be put off by the mixed jacks and outside smokin on the street but not much you can do about that
- Think the cloak room probably needs to be organised a bit better, gar and lucas had a lot of work keepin things organised, staff kept coming in with stuff and clogging up the room. The cubby holes are ideal for bags, but need better hangers and a rail for jackets.
- Id say have someone taking pix at the next one. This i think would help an awful lot in getting more guys to come because i think a lot of them have a perception of what they think it is like, pictures can change that perception.
- Perhaps look for 1 or 2 more volunteers for the cloakroom as gar and lucas spent most of the night in there. I dont mind doing a stint the next nite.

first off let me say Thanks for Getting rule up and running again we will continue to support you and the events in anyway we can.
It was fantastic to meet up with all the lads again at a rule night, we don't want to be appear to be complaining but we where concerned about several issues regards the venue and arrangements for the evening.
The location was good a bit small but the venue had several logistical problems. We where concerned as like others, we where at a fetish event which was shared with another function [not in the same space]. The Bathrooms where also shared and there did not appear to be any changing facilities,we thought the music was way to loud from both side. and myself wearing a hearing aid couldn't put up with it much longer.
We appreciate your efforts in organizing these events and thank you kindly, but we thought we would just point out or thoughts as we feel they will give you feedback to help you improve the nights.
if there is any way we can help you and the others out please feel free to ask.

Thanks for everyone for making the effort in coming along to the 1st RULE night in the Turks Head. It was great to see you all come out in force, wearing/changing in to your gear. Your support is much appreciated in helping us get this event off the ground.
Apologies from myself and the rest of the guys involved in Rule on the cloakroom chaos. The safety and protection of your belonging's is very important to us. Having a well organised cloakroom on a fetish night is vitally important. Especially when you pay 2 euro for the use of it and get given a ticket, you expect your belongings back at the end of the night, when returning your ticket without any delays. There was alot of confusion on the 1st night, which wasn't good for you to have to experience. Without going into detail's, we are fully aware of what prevented the problems causing mix up's and delays, which myself (Gar) and Lukazs where powerless from happening when on cloakroom duty, due to circumstances with the venue and it's staff. It's one of them 1st night issue's , like with the shared toliets and loud music that we learn from and will prepare us for future events.
Rest assure there will be big improvements made for the next night on the 27th, when we will discuss the matter with the Turk's Head venue in advance, to prevent any of them problems we had on the 1st night, happening again.
Please keep the feedback coming as your opinions and experience is very important to us. We need to work together here as a team to help keep, improve and make the gay fetish scene here in Dublin bigger and more established.

Big thank you to everyone, who showed up on Sunday. The night showed that there’s still strong interest in fetish :-) which is a good thing.
I personally had a great time, even though we were sharing the cloakroom duties with Gar. Again apologies for any delays in getting the clothes back. Next time will be better.
I was again surprised how friendly and relaxed everyone was, no attitude and no bullshit, it was great to chat to so many new people. As the most important thing is to enjoy the night out in your gear and have a bit of fun.
To summarise RULE is Great craic, great atmosphere, good music and loads of hotties… especially on the dance floor.

Adding my thanks to Karl & Co. for putting together another great night!
I didn't notice any issues with the cloakroom, but that's probably coz i was too busy having great fun :)
The venue is great, and music was good too. I think the main issues have all been mentioned above but since we've been told to make comments even if it's a repetition, here you go!
I personally didn't care much about the toilets, but I did get some odd looks, I guess from people coming from upstairs - this may put off newcomers.
What I enjoyed most in McGrattans was the social side of the event. The club feel in Turks Head was great but it's worth trying to organise the venue so that there's an area where music is less loud and people can relax (sit?) and have a chat. I hear we might get the other part of the basement next time - maybe that offers this possibility?

Having such great feedback is very important in the running of a night like this and from the amount aboveof reaction and feedback it looks like the Fetish nights are in good hands with the Current Committee.

So if you're planning a trip or short break away, why not consider Dublin and the RULE nights as a great way to support and make friends in the Irish fetish scene which thankfully is growing stronger.

1: Developments on the new RULE night.
We had a meeting with the management of the Turk's Head and got confirmation of the following from them for the next three RULE nights there. We had 126 guys at the club last Sunday October 30th 2011, then there were also the 6 of us involved in making the night happen... Sean on the door, Gar and Lukasz in the cloakroom, Clem and Frank as club promotors and dealing with the Turk's Head, and myself ????. It's nice that people keep thanking me, but it is a group effort and everyone deserves the recognition for all the work they do on it.

Future Dates:
The following dates have been agreed:
Sunday 27th NOVEMBER
Sunday 8th JANUARY
Sunday 29th JANUARY
All going well, continuing there after on the last Sunday of each month. We will have posters and flyers in the next few days. Maybe some of you would consider adding one to your profile to help promote the event? You might also mention it to friends and guys online when you are chatting. We know some of the popular sites restrict the use of flyers for events which are not run by the sites themselves. There will be a range of themes to chose from and you should find something to suit every taste :-)

The Space:
The Club space moves into the ‘self contained’ Club next to the one we used last Sunday. The ‘Changing Area’ and ‘Cloakroom’ will be in the area we used for the Club night last time.

The space we used last Sunday will become a quieter space for chatting, we can't totally eliminate the spillover of music from the new space, but it won't be nearly as loud as it was on Sunday. It will also serve as the changing area and cloakroom.

Drinks Promotion:
There will be a review of the Drinks Promotion – to reflect the ‘Draught Beer’ sales of last Sunday. Details to be announced.

The Cloakroom:
We will get stronger hangers. We will review the ticket number system and see if we can come up with some additional method to overcome the lost ticket experience we had on Sunday last.

2: Details of the next Dublin Alternative Market.
Dublins' Alternative Market will take place in the Ripley Court Hotel at 37 Talbot Street, Dublin 1, from 12-5pm, this Saturday 5th November. The market features a wide variety of stalls, selling all kinds of fetish, burlesque and alternative bargains. Stalls will feature bondage equipment, books, clothes, shoes, floggers, canes, paddles, and much more! Stalls cost €20 to vend, to cover rental, and entry is free for browsers.

RULE Fetish night is back

Irelands ONLY fetish night RULE is cancelled again

"BAD NEWS: COPPER ALLEY the new venue for RULE nights have decided to cancel the night. We have the guys from MOTHER to thank. They were having trouble pulling in the crowds at COPPER ALLEY, so they informed the venue of the artical we had a few weeks back in the Daily Mail, regarding McGrattan's & Ann Doyle. As a result, managment got cold feet and decided to not go ahead with it's plans for RULE.

"Its seems Ireland is not yet ready to allow a group of Gay Guys have a venue to wear their fetish gear in peace, that is a safe, friendly and drug-free enviroment..."

Can you believe this, is this telling us that ireland is not ready to see a fetish group meetup for chat and get together to discuss fetishwear etc. So much for us moving with the times over here, I knew we were deep in the closet with regards our fetishwear and showing it off in public but this really takes the biscuit.

What is R.U.L.E. fetish night all about (taken from Rule_Ireland club forum on www.Gayromeo.com)

Each month we just seem to grow that extra bit stronger with word & news of this event. The support from guys interested in wanting to explore the whole fetish scene and then our other loyal experienced fetish regular's who want to try help us finally create a on-going fetish scene on a regular basic's within our Dublin gay scene and nationwide.

So really if you have been curious about attending this event, but have been holding it off till next month each time, you may miss out altogether on the possible opportunity off how much you could really enjoy being part of the fetish scene at event's held all over the world and the great comradship there does be involved, by having a disired sexual fetish towards gear & other kinky activities. All by starting off small and meeting new people, making new friends locally by just coming to RULE night.

That is why we all need to work together as a team, to prove owner's of other venue's wrong, that infact there is a great demand within our Irish community to have an event that's new, exciting, liberating and different to what's currently on offer at the moment in our gay community social scene and for us to be able to host on a more suitable night for all.

Really if other small places such as Antwerp can play host to big fetish event's for guys all over and we still cannot, it leaves alot to be questioned about the lack of openess, freedom to express and not have to worry about stigma attached within our supposed modern gay society here in Ireland.

If this has prevented you from coming so far. What's the point in marching the streets in Dublin for gay pride each year, if your worried about what other's will think of you for coming to this event?
This though is our chance now to eventually progress over time and show put Ireland on the map and at level with the rest of modern gay Europe.

That is why we can't stress enough the importances of having this venue while we do and to take every opportunity to promote the possible potential there is, while given this chance.

If you have not yet been and have been keen, I really urge you to give it a try. I know it's not easy with it being on a Sunday night and the small matter of having work the next morning for many of you (including the organiser's). Alot of us involved, know how at first, starting out can be a nerve wrecking & a daunting feeling within before attending an event of this nature. Therefore it is important for 1st timer's to know to please not hesitate in sending a message to guys such as myself (gazdublin), Karl (irl_skin), John (rubjob), Sean (blackleather6) and our club RULE_IRELAND to ask questions, provide reasurances, have faces to know and approch/chat to on the night and to help you get the best possible fullfilment in your efforts in attending RULE.

Irish Fetish scene

Here in Ireland we are still only coming out of the shadows with gay life and recently the passing of the law for same sex couples to have a civil partnership was a step in the right direction.
As for a leather or fetish scene its all behind closed doors but maybe in time this will grow to be something thats accepted also.
Many attempts have been tried throughout the years to have  monthly get together for men that love their fetishwear, and the likes of L.U.B.E. or Dresscode or XXL or R.U.L.E. were setup.
These are nights run at certain times in the month to accomodate any horny men into their fetishes, be it leather, rubber, lycra or anyother, its a casual way for men into fetish to meet and chat other guys into the same.
But unfortunately recently our only fetish night R.U.L.E. in Dublin was cancelled and the owner of the venue it was held decided it was no more for him as an article was written in a sunday paper about him and the goings on behind closed doors.
I know the committee setup to organise this night were really upset as it was just starting to get going for them and currently are seeking a new premises for us fetish men to meet and have some fun together.
I guess you could say here in Ireland we are progressing slowly but surely and the future looks good for us fetishmen.
